Vastu Tips for Kitchen Placement: Do's and Don'ts

In Vastu Shastra, the kitchen represents the fire element (Agni) and is treated as one of the most important zones in a home, closely tied to the health and prosperity of the household.

Best direction for the kitchen

The South-East corner of a home is traditionally considered the ideal placement for a kitchen, as it is governed by Agni, the fire element. If South-East isn't available, North-West is generally considered the next best option.

Where to place the stove

The cook should ideally face East while cooking. The stove itself is traditionally placed away from the kitchen door and not directly in line with the sink, since fire and water placed too close together are believed to create energy conflict in Vastu.

Sink and water storage

The sink and any water storage are best kept in the North-East corner of the kitchen, keeping a clear separation from the stove.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Placing the kitchen directly opposite the main entrance
  • Positioning the stove under a window or beam
  • Building the kitchen in the North-East corner of the home, which is generally avoided for fire-related spaces
  • Keeping the kitchen cluttered or poorly lit

Every home is different, and small structural constraints are common. For a personalised Vastu assessment of your kitchen or full home, book a consultation with our certified Vastu experts.
