In Vastu Shastra, the main entrance is often called the Mukhya Dwar and is considered the point through which energy enters a home. Getting it right can make a noticeable difference to the flow of a household.
1. Prefer the North, East or North-East
These directions are traditionally considered the most favourable for a main entrance, as they are believed to invite positive energy and morning sunlight.
2. Keep the entrance clutter-free
Shoes, dustbins and clutter near the door are believed to block the smooth flow of energy into the home.
3. Use a well-lit doorway
A bright, well-maintained entrance is considered auspicious and welcoming.
4. Avoid direct alignment with the back door
If the main door and back door are in a straight line, energy is believed to pass straight through the house instead of nourishing it.
5. Choose the right door material and direction of opening
Wooden doors that open inward and clockwise are generally preferred in Vastu.
